Best Cordless Drill Reviews and Comparisions

Are you looking for a good cordless drill that won’t let you down on the job?

With the multitude of choices online are you a little overwhelmed by the cordless drill choices?

Shopping online can be frustrating but it is also the best place to get a great price on a high quality cordless drill.  The problem being is how do you know if the company is trustworthy?

This blog was designed was designed to help you with those exact issues!

I love to build things and a cordless drill is a must for anyone serious about working with their hands.  I’ve put this blog together to help you decide which cordless drill is right for you. Throughout this blog you will find cordless drill reviews and comparisons as well as my recommendations based on what I use today and what I’ve used in the past.

A Few Considerations for Your Cordless Drill:

When determining what cordless drill to purchase you need to consider Chuck Size, Battery Voltage (torque), Battery types and Chargers, and Special features.

Chuck Size – the chuck is the place you put the drill bit and cordless drill chucks feature 2 different sizes; 3/8-inch or ½-inch.  The measurement indicates the diameter of the shank of a drill you can put in it, for example a 3/8 chuck can hold drill bits with shank diameter of no more than 3/8-inch, however larger  diameter drills can be used as long it has a shank less than 3/8-inch.

Everyone will tell you can get by with a 3/8-inch chuck; however my experience has been once you use the ½-inch chuck cordless drill you will never go back.

Battery Voltage – cordless drill typically have 3 voltage sizes; 12 Volt, 14.4 Volt and 18 Volt. The higher the voltage the greater the torque your cordless drill will have.  If you need a cordless drill that has a lot of torque then it’s best to go with an 18 volt cordless drill.

Battery Types and Chargers – Most cordless drill come with nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries and these work great, newer, greener batteries are being introduced such as the Lithium-ion and nickel-metal-hydride.  When possible you should go with the greener battery but until then stick with NiCd batteries.

The battery charger that comes with your cordless drill can be either a slow charger (a couple of hours to charge) or a rapid charger (as quick as 15 minutes).  Again this depends on your needs; if you use the drill infrequently then a slower charger is fine.  If you’re like me you want the drill to be ready to go so a rapid charger is a must when I use it and I prefer to have 2 batteries also.

Special Features - although not necessary some cordless drill special features can really help on the job. Special features such as built-in LED lights, built in level, pressure sensitive trigger, and single sleeve ratcheting chucks.  My 2 favorites ate the LED lights and ratcheting chuck they really make the drilling job easier.

The Cordless Drill I Use…

The DEWALT DC720KA Cordless 18-Volt Compact Drill/Driver is the cordless drill I use, it’s an updated model and I recently purchased it after I accidentally crushed (it happens to us all) the previous Dewalt model cordless drill I was using.   I purchased this model because I loved my other one and the DC720KA is even better!

It has an 18 volt variable speed motor that delivers a lot of torque, I’ve yet to overload or slow this one down. The comfortable handle makes it easy to drill a lot of holes without stopping and it comes with a LED light that allows you to see what your drilling if low light conditions.  The ratcheting chuck is one of the coolest features as you don’t need a chuck key to tighten the bit.

The DEWALT DC720KA Cordless 18-Volt Compact Drill/Driver great cordless drill and is easily affordable if you know where to look. Currently Amazon has the DEWALT DC720KA Cordless 18-Volt Compact Drill/Driver at over 60% off of the list price! If you’re ready to buy I’d go there now and get this low price while it’s being offered, I don’t know how long this will last. Here’s a quick link to this great offer: DEWALT DC720KA Cordless 18-Volt Compact Drill/Driver

The other great thing about this price is it comes with a three-year limited warranty, one-year free service, and 90-day money-back guarantee as well as being offered by Amazon, the most trusted site for online purchasing.
